Itinerary
Day 1
To discover the jungle
The departure time to Lake Sandoval will depend on your arrival time in Puerto Maldonado.
We will try to accommodate your schedule. First we will navigate the Madre de Dios River for approximately 45 minutes to reach the entrance of the lake. On the edge of the lake we will find canoes to row in the last part of the trip to the lodge, where we will spend the following days to see birds, turtles, large trees, palm trees and different types of ecosystems.
Once they returned home, where local families live and have been involved in eco-tourism for some years.
Lunch will be served at the lodge and then you will be given time to settle into your rooms. If you wish, you can swim in the lake or have a rest. At approximately 4:00 pm you will take a canoe along the lake in search of monkeys and other types of birds, including toucans, parrots, etc.
You can enjoy the sunset from an observation tower. When it gets dark we will start looking for crocodiles, little crocodiles that are not aggressive. We will search for them and other nocturnal animals for about an hour. After that, we will return to the lodge for dinner.
Day 2
Palm lick for macaws
On day 2 we will get up very early at 4:30 a.m.
We will take a canoe across the lake and then we will walk about 15 minutes to reach a place where there will be many macaws where they lick minerals on a special palm tree and we will have opportunities to meet a variety of colorful bird species. including, parrots, herons, woodpeckers, etc. In this place, the local guide will provide you with more information about the birds.
After this activity we will have breakfast again at 8:00 am
After a nap, there will be a jungle hike to find medicinal plants. On this walk they will be taught about the forest around the lake and about the local family that lives here.
This walk will be very slow. You will see some very large trees, such as ficus. You will learn about Brazil nuts, natural dyes, the rubber tree, among others. At approximately 1:00 pm we will return to have lunch and rest until approximately 4:00 pm
During this break time, there will be opportunities to swim, relax, eat local fruits directly from the tree, such as orange, tangerine, coconut, starfruit, etc. At 4:00 p.m. M., We will take a canoe ride on the lake in another direction to see other types of monkeys, birds and watch the sunset.
This will be a great photo opportunity. We will be back in time for a night walk, where you will see insects like crickets, ants jump from the hill. You can also see spiders, tarantulas, frogs, snakes, etc. and feel the symphony of the jungle. After this night walk we will return to the lodge for dinner.
Day 3
Search for giant otters or river wolf
We will get up early at 5:30 am to see the giant otters.
This type of mammal is very sensitive and very nervous.
They have been hunted in the past and are currently in danger.
In this lake there is a family of otters, each one about 2 meters tall. We will also have the chance to see a super beautiful sunrise with the symphony of the jungle and see many birds flying through the sky.
After seeing the otters we will return to the lodge for breakfast at 8:00 am
After a break, we will canoe across the lake and walk a bit to see two giant trees that are almost 400 years old, as well as other timber tree species, which will talk a bit about illegal logging, illegal mining and other main activities in the region, always with the expectations of observing more fauna that exists in this beautiful lake that was part of the huge river many years ago that is now isolated in the middle of the jungle. After this tour we will return for lunch, and after the siesta we will return to Puerto Maldonado
